The radio phone system consists of 19 VHF support stations covering the A1 area with eight radio channels.
On channel 70, automatic maritime distress signals are transferred in accordance with GMDSS requirements as well as communication calls via DSC (Digital Selective Calling).
On channel 16, automatic maritime distress signals and communication calls continue to be transferred via an operator for ships that do not have a new communication system (DSC). The same channel can also be used for transmitting information related to maritime safety as well as for communication during rescue works (On scene communication).
Channel 69 is the working channel for the state fleet.
On channels 1; 3; 5; 7; 20; 26; 62; 64; 66 (working channels for duplex communication), Tallinn Radio transfers weather, ice and navigation messages in the maritime communication network. A relevant pre-notice is given on channel 16.
